The 2010/2011 season of Sparta Rotterdam was the 55th year in Dutch professional football for the club from Rotterdam. After five years in the Premier League, the club returned to the First Division. Sparta also took part in the KNVB Cup tournament again.
Forced by the relegation, Sparta started a drastic cutback operation in May, which was supposed to lead to savings of 5 million euros. The budget of 10 million had to be halved. In addition, Sparta was short of 3 million last season. The sale of Nick Viergever and Erik Falkenburg earned the club 2 million euros.
Interim coach Aad de Mos made way for Jan Everse after the relegation. However, on February 24, 2011, just after the home defeat (0-2) against Telstar, he resigned. The former footballer was succeeded by assistant Jos van Eck. Under his leadership, Sparta finished in ninth place in the final rankings. In the cup tournament, Sparta lost to Premier League side PSV Eindhoven in the third round: 3-0.
The top scorer of the season was the recently recruited centre-forward Johan Voskamp with 29 goals. He scored eight times in one league match against Almere City FC on August 20, 2010, a record in the First Division. The match ended 12-1 in favor of Sparta Rotterdam. After 77 minutes he was given a substitution.
Graydon acted as main and shirt sponsor of Sparta for the seventh and final season. The company had been affiliated with the club from Spangen since 2004, making it the longest-serving sponsor in club history.
