The Dutch national football team is a team of male football players that represents the Netherlands in international matches. The team is also called "Oranje", after the color of the shirt, which refers to the Dutch royal family Oranje-Nassau.
The Dutch national team usually plays its home games in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Eindhoven. The Netherlands won the 1988 European Championship and reached the final of the World Cup in 1974, 1978 and 2010. No other country has been in a World Cup final so many times without ever winning the tournament. Furthermore, the team won three bronze medals at the Olympic Games and came second in the first edition of the UEFA Nations League. The Dutch national team reached first place in the FIFA world rankings in August 2011, for the first time since its introduction in 1992. The low point was reached in August 2017, when the Netherlands was 36th.
