Luca Toni(Pavullo nel Frignano, 26 May 1977) is an Italian former professional footballer who played centrally in the attack. He played for 15 different clubs from 1994 to 2016. Toni was also active in the Italian national football team from 2004 to 2009, with which he won the 2006 World Cup. He played 47 international matches and scored sixteen times.
In the summer of 2003, Toni moved to Palermo, which played in the Serie B that season. This is where the tall striker really found his niche. Thanks to Toni's 30 goals, the club was promoted to Serie A. Again, Toni made an excellent impression, scoring 20 times straight away, which earned him a transfer to Fiorentina. In the 2005/2006 season, Toni became Serie A's top scorer with 31 goals. Led by national coach Marcello Lippi, he made his debut on August 18, 2004 in the friendly away game against Iceland (2-0) in Reykjavík, as did midfielder Manuele Blasi . Not much later, Toni was allowed to go to the World Cup in Germany with the Italian national team. There he started in six of the seven games in the starting lineup. In the quarterfinals against Ukraine, he found the net twice. He played 24 international matches up to and including the World Cup and scored nine times.
