Sparta Prague is the best known and most popular Czech football club, which, together with its biggest rival Slavia Prague, belonged to the almost invincible top of Czechoslovakian football until the end of World War II and was also one of the best clubs in European football. Between 1919 and 1925, the club lost only once in 59 games and was therefore called železná Sparta (Iron Sparta). Sparta Prague relegated to the first league only once, in 1975. In 1976, promotion to the top division followed again.
