The Scotland national football team is a team of footballers that represent Scotland in international competitions. The nickname of the supporters is the "Tartan Army". This is derived from the kilts which traditionally have a particular pattern of tartan checks (a tartan), and 'Army' means 'army'. The supporters also call themselves "Ally's Army" after Ally MacLeod, the coach of Scotland during the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
