Eintracht Frankfurt is a German sports association, best known as a football club. The club was created in 1920 after several mergers between Frankfurt sports associations. Eintracht's biggest rival is Kickers Offenbach.
In the early 1990s, Eintracht Frankfurt is experiencing a revival. They play for the championship for a few seasons and have top players such as Andread Möller, Anthony Yeboah and Jay-Jay Okocha under contract. After escaping relegation in the previous season, they now finished third in the final standings. In the UEFA Cup, they are eliminated early twice by modest clubs Brøndby IF and KAA Gent. In 1991/92, the club competed for a second national title until the last match day. Together with VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, the club has 50 points and the best goal difference. The opponent in the last game is Hansa Rostock, who theoretically still has a chance to avoid relegation. In the Ostseestadion of Hansa, however, the club goes down 2-1 while the direct opponents win and Stuttgart takes the title. Thanks to a victory by Wattenscheid 09, Hansa was also relegated. The Frankfurt team of that season is regarded as one of the best Frankfurt teams of all time.
The following seasons, the club again finished third, this time trailing further and fifth. In the UEFA Cup, the quarter-finals were reached twice.
Due to extreme mismanagement by the board, quarrels within that same board, quarrels between coaches and players (including Yeboah who leaves the club disappointed and will never play as well as at Frankfurt) the club slides into the lower regions in no time. of the Bundesliga. And in 1996 the time has come: Eintracht Frankfurt is relegated to the second Bundesliga for the first time. It is even the first time in the club's existence that they do not play in the highest division.
