AS Saint-Etienne regains the European Cup via Intertoto. However the adventure is short, in the quarter-final against the Romanian club Cluj (1-1 in Cluj, 2-2 in Saint-Etienne): the ASSE can focus on his championship.
After a sluggish start to the championship, made several draws against promoted or relegated, ASSE chained several victories (including against Paris SG 3-0). On the evening of the 7th day, the Greens are third, behind Olympique Lyonnais and Mans UC. In the next match, they are defeated at home by AS Nancy Lorraine (2-0), which marks the end of the series of 17 games, or 1534 minutes, without goal conceded at home by Jérémie Janot. However, the ASSE still makes remarkable matches, notably beating Olympique de Marseille (2-1). In November, the team is again third, and at the truce, the green, although 9th, are only three points away from the second.
The club is recruiting striker Hélder Postiga to strengthen a line of attack that seems to be difficult. Yet the second part of the season will be very hard: April 30, losing 0-4 at Stade Gerland, the Greens record their worst result in the derby since 1962, and attend the coronation of their opponent. Finally the greens end up at a disappointing 13th place. The coach Élie Baup, at the end of the contract, leaves the club.
Damien Perquis
Perquis also has French nationality and played three international matches for the promises of France. In December 2008, he announced that he wanted to play for the Polish national team. There were some problems getting a Polish identity, but coach Franciszek Smuda could get the necessary papers through Polish President Bronisław Komorowski. Perquis received his Polish identity papers on 1 September 2011. Five days later, on September 6, 2011, he made his debut against Germany (the game ended 2-2). On May 26, 2012, he scored the only goal in a friendly match against Slovakia. He was part of the selection that participated in the 2012 European Championship in Poland and Ukraine. Here he came into action during all three group duels. However, Poland did not go further than the first round.
