After the New Year, the club recorded a series of seven consecutive victories - namely in the period February - March - which put the club back at the top of the pack. Arsenal mainly owed this remontada to top scorer Robin van Persie, author of 30 goals in the Premier League and therefore winner of the Premier League Golden Boot. It was Van Persie's last season at the club, after this season the Dutchman moved to arch-rival Manchester United. In the UEFA Champions League, the club reached the 1/16 finals, but came up against the Italian AC Milan. In the League Cup, the quarter-final was the final destination, Arsenal went on to win at home. home against the future national champion Manchester City on November 29, 2011. Cesc Fàbregas left the club after eight years and returned to childhood favorite FC Barcelona, where the Spaniard took his first steps as a footballer. Van Persie was the new captain, following Fàbregas. Thierry Henry briefly returned to the Emirates Stadium, the club icon was rented from the American New York Red Bulls. After two months he left again because the lease agreement with New York Red Bulls expired. Henry played four league games and scored the winning goal in an away match against Sunderland on 11 February 2012. Wojciech Szczęsny became an undisputed starter between the posts and Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey fought back this season after a broken leg. Thomas Vermaelen resumed his position in central defense after injuries bothered the Belgian. Gaël Clichy moved to Manchester City in the summer, with whom he would become national champions. Clichy's departure to City meant that no player from the wonder season of 2003/2004 was still active at the club.
