The club was founded in 1973 by the merger of TSG Jahn Wuppertal with the 1912 founded SSV Nächstebreck. In addition to football, the club offers the sports of badminton, gymnastics, tennis, table tennis and volleyball.
The footballers of Fortuna reached in 1994 the final of the Lower Rhine Cup against GSV Moers. The result is unknown, but qualified the time in the Verbandsliga Niederrhein antretenden Wuppertal for the DFB Cup.
