In the 2008/09 season, Tottenham Hotspur finished 8th in the Premier League after a dramatic turnaround under new manager Harry Redknapp, and were the League Cup runners-up. The season began with their worst-ever start in the league, which led to the sacking of manager Juande Ramos.
Tottenham had their worst start to a league season in history, with no wins in their first eight games. Harry Redknapp was appointed manager in October 2008 and quickly steered the team away from the relegation zone. The team reached the Football League Cup final, where they lost to Manchester United 4-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in extra time. They were eliminated in the fourth round of the FA Cup and the Round of 32 in the UEFA Cup.
