The Altheim sports club was created in 1948 through a merger of three Altheim - football clubs.

From 1968 the club belonged to the Upper Austrian state league, making it the football club that had belonged to the state league for the longest time. The biggest success was winning the league title in 1973. In addition, the 2 Austrian national players Franz Viehböck and Reinhold Hintermaier started their career at SK Altheim.
