During the 1995–96 La Liga season, Real Sociedad finished 7th in the table, securing 63 points in the first Spanish top-flight campaign to award 3 points for a victory. The club experienced a managerial shift early in the campaign. Salva Iriarte started the season but was dismissed in November 1995 following a difficult run of form. He was replaced by Javier Irureta, who successfully stabilized the team and guided them to an upper-half finish.
