During the 2009–10 season, AFC Ajax, managed by Martin Jol, had an historically explosive offensive year but narrowly missed out on the Eredivisie title. Despite scoring a staggering 106 league goals and winning their final 14 games in a row, they finished second to FC Twente by just a single point. However, the team found silverware by winning the KNVB Cup, defeating Feyenoord 6–1 on aggregate in a two-legged final.
