During the 2015–2016 season, central midfielder Sergej Evljuskin was a key squad member for KSV Hessen Kassel competing in the fourth-tier Regionalliga Südwest. The 2015–2016 season marked Evljuskin's second year with the "Löwen" (Lions) after transferring from Goslarer SC in 2014. Earlier in his youth career, Evljuskin was highly touted as one of Germany's top prospects, famously winning the prestigious Fritz Walter Medal in Gold twice (in 2005 and 2006), placing him ahead of future World Cup winners like Toni Kroos and Jérôme Boateng.
