In the 2001/2002 season, the Doetinchem football club De Graafschap finished in 14th place in the Eredivisie, securing direct survival. It was the club's 47th year in professional football. Under the leadership of new head coach Jurrie Koolhof, the club had a strong start to the season (with a 3-0 victory over AZ), but experienced its fair share of ups and downs throughout the season.
