He suffered the injury in May 2019 during a post-season charity match against the New England Revolution, which sidelined him for over 13 months. Due to the long rehabilitation process and the subsequent Premier League suspension caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, his return to the first team was delayed until the summer of 2020.
