Van der Werff started playing football at VV Actief, where he transferred to the FC Groningen youth academy in 2013. In 2016, Van der Werff moved to the SC Cambuur youth academy, where he played in various youth teams, ultimately making it to the club's Under-21 team. On July 24, 2023, as an Under-21 player, he was invited to the first team's training camp under the guidance of then-manager Sjors Ultee.

In August 2023, Van der Werff was selected for the first team several times. On August 25, he made his debut for SC Cambuur in the Eerste Divisie, coming on as an 85th-minute substitute for Remco Balk in the home match against Jong Ajax (a 4-2 victory).

Van der Werff was without a club during the summer of 2024, after which he went on a training camp with TOP Oss. After his internship there, he signed a one-year contract. On August 9, 2024, he made his debut for TOP Oss in the 3-1 home win against Excelsior.
