They faced Italy, Wales, and Turkey.

Switzerland – Italy: 0-3 loss

Switzerland – Turkey: 3-1 win (including two Shaqiri goals)
→ As third in the group, they advanced to the knockout stage.

Round of 16
Switzerland caused a sensation by eliminating world champions France. After a 3-3 draw in regulation time and extra time, they won 5-4 on penalties. Yann Sommer saved Kylian Mbappé's decisive penalty.

Quarterfinals
Switzerland drew 1-1 against Spain (goal by Shaqiri), but lost 3-1 on penalties.
