This very unique Bayer 04 Leverkusen home shirt was used by Hüzeyfe Doğan as a reserve player during the Champions League campaign in the 2001-2002 season. Doğan did not play any minutes in this tournament but that does not make the shirt less special. Leverkusen lost the final to Real Madrid with 1-2.
In the 2001–02 season, Bayer Leverkusen became only the second club to finish runners-up in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League in the same season, after Barcelona in 1986. However, a possible treble was lost in the final weeks of the season, resulting in no trophies. In addition, stars such as Michael Ballack and Zé Roberto left for Bayern Munich. Leverkusen dominated the second half of the Champions League final against Real Madrid, but lost 2–1 to a volley from Zinedine Zidane in the closing stages of the first half.
Hüzeyfe Doğan(born 1 January 1981) is a former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Born in Turkey and raised in Germany, he first represented Turkey U19 and later Germany U20 at international level.
Doğan was born in Karakoçan, Turkey. He moved to Germany at a young age and became a naturalized German citizen. He started his career at Bonner SC before joining the youth academy of Bayer Leverkusen. He stayed there for six years and, like many Turks in Germany, tried his luck at a Turkish club. He joined Ankaragücü in the summer of 2003, but returned to Germany in the summer of 2005 to play for SC Paderborn 07.
