The 2002 FIFA World Cup was the 17th edition of an international football match between the national men's teams of countries affiliated to FIFA. The final round of the event was held in Japan and South Korea from May 31 to June 30. It was the first edition to be held in Asia. It was also the first world championship organized by two countries. The tournament was won by Brazil, which defeated Germany 2-0 in the final and thus won the world title for the fifth time.
