The England national football team represents England, and not the entire United Kingdom, in international football competitions such as the World Cup and the European Championship.

Each of the four Home Nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) has its own football association, its own league and its own national team. England is by far the most successful of the four.

In 1966 England became world champion in their own country. It reached the semi-finals of a major international tournament four times (EC 1968, World Cup 1990, European Championship 1996 and World Cup 2018).
