This unique World Cup 2002 away shirt of Turkey comes from top player Yildiray Baştürk.
Yıldıray Baştürk(Bochum, December 24, 1978) is a German-born former professional footballer with Turkish-German dual nationality. He played as an attacking midfielder.
Baştürk gained national fame in the 2001/02 season through his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. The small dribbler did well as expected and also played in the Champions League final against Real Madrid (2-1 loss). After the departure of German coach Klaus Toppmöller (who was also his coach at VfL Bochum) from Leverkusen, Baştürk also wanted to leave. It was expected that he would make the move to a European top club, but surprisingly the dribbler went to Hertha. Despite interest from the big clubs in Turkey, the guest worker son continued to play in Germany. In the 2007/08 season, the player was transferred by VfB Stuttgart.
When asked why he did not want to play football in Turkey, he replied: 'I have an example function in Germany for all Turkish youngsters, I show how far you can get despite all prejudices. When I think I have been past my peak, I will go to Turkey'.
