Original Champion vintage NBA uniform New Orleans Hornets 2007/09

The New Orleans Pelicans (formerly the New Orleans Hornets) are an American professional basketball team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the NBA. The Pelicans are based at the New Orleans Arena. Due to Hurricane Katrina, they had to relocate to Oklahoma City between 2005 and 2007, where they settled in the Ford Center. The Pelicans were founded in 2002 as the New Orleans Hornets. At that time, it was a continuation of the Charlotte Hornets, which were founded in 1988. In 2013, the team was renamed to the New Orleans Pelicans (after the nickname of the state of Louisiana: Pelican State). Because the name Hornets was no longer in use, a new team in Charlotte, the Charlotte Bobcats, changed their name to the Charlotte Hornets a year later. After consultation with the team in Charlotte and the NBA, it was decided in 2014 that the Pelicans would transfer the history of the (old) Charlotte Hornets to the new Hornets. This meant retroactively, that the Pelicans are considered a new team that only debuted in 2002.
