FAI had to pay Sports Direct $100,000 a month after the kit deal failed.

A planned sponsorship deal from the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) with Sports Direct worth up to €6.5 million has failed, and the association is now repaying the British sportswear company €100,000 a month after receiving some of the money.

FAI sources say the association was informed by letter in the spring that a new kit deal with Sports Direct had been canceled, with no reason given. The repayments to Sports Direct are seen as one of the reasons Uefa gave the association a reported € 10 million loan to keep it solvent.
