FK Željezničar Sarajevo is a Bosnian football club from Sarajevo. The club has a great history and was a big club in the time of Yugoslavia. In 1985 it reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
Zeljeznicar first played in the highest division of Yugoslavia in 1946, just after the Second World War, but was immediately relegated. In 1954 the club returned to the highest division and this time relegated after two seasons. The stay in the second division was limited to one season, but again the club had to relegate after two seasons. In 1962 the club returned and immediately became third. The club quickly settled in the top 5 every year and after the second place in 1971 the club became national champion in 1972. The following seasons the club finished lower each time and in 1977 the club was relegated. After one season, Zeljeznicar was back in the highest division and finished in the middle bracket. In 1982 the club finished fifth and two years later even third. After that, the club finished in the middle bracket and just escaped another relegation in 1989. In 1991/92 the league had to do without clubs from Slovenia and Croatia, but after 17 matches Zeljeznicar also withdrew from the Yugoslav league.
Due to the war, the Bosnian league only started in 1994 and after a few seasons the first title was won in 1998. The second followed three years later and the club also became champion the following year. After a long time, Zeljeznicar could once again become national champion in 2010.
