England's national football team did not qualify for the Euro 2008 tournament, and therefore David Beckham did not play in the finals. England finished third in their qualifying group behind Croatia and Russia, in a campaign managed by Steve McClaren.
David Beckham was recalled to the England squad during the qualifying campaign after initially being dropped by McClaren. He made contributions in several key matches:
He provided an assist from a free-kick for Peter Crouch's goal in the crucial final qualifier against Croatia on November 21, 2007.
England needed only a draw in that match to qualify but lost 3-2 at Wembley, a result that eliminated them from the tournament and led to McClaren's sacking.
Beckham was recalled to the squad for the final two qualifiers to add experience but was ruled out of some earlier qualifiers in September 2007 due to a knee ligament injury.
