The Brooklyn Nets (BKN) is a basketball team in the National Basketball Association (NBA), based in the New York borough of Brooklyn since 2012. The Nets play in the Atlantic Division, which is part of the NBA's Eastern Conference.
The team was founded in 1967 in Teaneck, New Jersey, as a participant in the then American Basketball Association (ABA), under the name New Jersey Americans. The following year they moved to Long Island and became the New York Nets. They have had different names over the years and have been located in various places in New Jersey and New York.
Thanks to the arrival of star player Julius Erving, nicknamed "Dr. J" in 1973, the New York Nets won the ABA title in 1974 (against the Utah Stars) and in 1976 (against the Denver Nuggets). This was the last ABA title, because after this season the ABA and the NBA merged.
