Real Valladolid is a Spanish football club from Valladolid. The home stadium is the Nuevo José Zorrilla, which has a capacity of 28,000.
The club was created on June 20, 1928, from a merger between Real Unión Deportiva and Club Deportivo Español. It plays for several years in the Tercera División and Segunda División A until 1948, until it is promoted to the Primera División in that year. The following year, it reached the final of the Copa del Rey, losing to Athletic Bilbao. Valladolid will stay at the top level until the 1957/58 season when it is relegated.
The club returns after a year. However, after 2 seasons in the Primera División, another relegation follows. In 1962 the club returned to the highest level, again after a year of playing a lower level. In the first season, the club takes 4th place, the highest position ever. A year later, however, relegation follows again. The club then stayed in the Segunda División from 1964/65 to 1980/81 (one year it also played in the Tercera División, season 1970/71). From 1980 to 2004 it plays in the Primera División except for one season.
Relegation to Segunda División A followed in 2004. Real Valladolid then played 3 seasons in Segunda División A. The club was the leader of the league in the 2006/07 season and has broken the record of consecutive matches without defeat in Segunda División A. At 22 April 2007, the club secures a return to the Primera División with a 0-2 victory over CD Tenerife. Real Valladolid is no longer traceable due to the number 4, a non-promotional place. The club eventually ends up as champions for Real Murcia and UD Almería. After three years in Spain's top division, Real Valladolid relegated to Segunda División A after eighteenth place in the 2009/10 season. In the 2011/12 season, the team finished third and promoted after play-off matches back to the Primera Division. In 2016, the team was relegated to the second level, to return to the Primera División in 2018.
