The 2018/19 season is the 106th year in PSV's existence. In this year, the Eindhoven football club took part in the Eredivisie for the 63rd consecutive year and in the tournaments for the TOTO KNVB Cup and the Champions League.
As of 1 June 2018, technical director Marcel Brands left for Everton after eight seasons of service. John de Jong is his successor. On June 22, 2018, it was announced that head coach Phillip Cocu and assistant coach Chris van der Weerden were leaving for Fenerbahçe as of this season. After five seasons as a trainer, they were succeeded by the new head coach Mark van Bommel and the new assistant coach Jürgen Dirkx. On June 26, 2018, it was announced that Reinier Robbemond is the new assistant coach. As a result, assistant coach Ruud Brood had to leave the club after three seasons.
PSV played in the play-off qualifying round of the Champions League this season. PSV won the diptych against Belarusian BATE Borisov with a total score of 6-2 (3-2 away win and a 3-0 home win) and qualified for the group stage of the Champions League. In the group stage, PSV finished last in the group of FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Internazionale and was finished in Europe before the winter break.
PSV finished second in the league this season behind Ajax, three points behind. Up to and including round 28, PSV was the leader, but then had to give it up to Ajax due to losing too many points in the second half of the season. PSV was then unable to catch up with Ajax. In the KNVB Cup, PSV was eliminated in the second round. PSV lost 2 – 3 to RKC Waalwijk after extra time.
