Norwich City Football Club is an English football club that was founded in 1902. Its home stadium is Carrow Road in Norwich.
When founded, The Canaries played at Newmarket Road. In 1908 they moved to a disused lime pit that became known as The Nest. In 1935, when it turned out that the capacity was too small, the club moved to its current location. The first major prize was won in the 1961/62 season, when the League Cup was won; a feat in the 1984/85 season was repeated.
Norwich played at the second and third tier of the English football league for decades. Promotion to the highest level was enforced for the first time in the 1971/72 season. Until the mid-1990s, the club often played at the highest level. In the inaugural season of the Premier League (1992/93), Norwich led much of the season. A bad final series ultimately resulted in a third place for the team led by trainer-coach Mike Walker. In the following season (1993/94) the club played in Europe for the first time. Norwich overcame Vitesse first. The biggest fairytale in club history took place in the second round. Bayern Munich was eliminated. On October 19, 1993, the club defeated Bayern Munich 1–2 away by goals from Jeremy Goss and Mark Bowen. The return leg ended 1–1, allowing Norwich to push through. Norwich was eventually eliminated by Internazionale.
The club was relegated two seasons after playing in Europe. Delia Smith, an English TV chef, took over the majority of the shares. Slowly but surely things got better for Norwich and that resulted in a return to the Premier League in the 2004/05 season. In the denouement of the season, Norwich did not play safe on the last day of play. The club lost 6-0 to Fulham. Due to, among other things, a victory of West Bromwich Albion, this was not enough to protect one's body.
In 2009 the club was relegated to Football League One. Norwich became champion in 2010 with nine points ahead of Leeds United. The following season, Norwich finished second in the Championship and was promoted again to the Premier League. In 2014, the club relegated to the Championship, but after just one season the team returned to the highest level. Norwich was 2-0 too strong for Middlesbrough FC at Wembley in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
However, the top-level adventure lasted only one season. Norwich will play in the Championship again from 2016/17. After two seasons as a midfielder, Norwich forced promotion again in the 2018/19 season, allowing The Canaries to return to the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.
