The Scottish Premier League (SPL) was the highest football division in the Scottish football system from 1998 to 2013. The SPL and SFL merged in 2013 and established the new Scottish Professional Football League as the successor.

The Scottish Premier League (SPL) was the highest football division in the Scottish football system from 1998 to 2013. The SPL and SFL merged in 2013 and established the new Scottish Professional Football League as the successor.
At the end of the last season, 2012/13, the Scottish Premier League was in 24th place in the UEFA ranking, based on the performance of the participating clubs in the European leagues. A total of nineteen clubs played in the SPL. Celtic FC and Rangers FC divided all titles.
