The Chileans refused to finish the game. After the images were examined by FIFA and it was seen that the fireworks were not making contact with Rojas, Brazil was awarded a regulation 2-0 win that eliminated Chile. Chile was also excluded from participating in the World Cup qualifier for the 1994 World Cup, Rojas was banned for life, although he was given an amnesty in 2001.
