Atalanta BC (Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio, better known as Atalanta Bergamo) is an Italian football club from Bergamo, founded in 1907 and playing in the Serie A. The club plays its home games at the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia, which can accommodate more than 22,000 spectators.
With its foundation in 1907, a second football club was established in Bergamo, the other was known as FC Bergamo. The Italian Football Association, FIGC, did not recognize the new club until 1914. The two clubs merged in 1920 to form Atalanta Bergamasca di Ginnastica e Scherma 1907. The new club moved in 1928 to the current stadium, on Via Pitentino.
Atalanta was admitted to the Italian league in 1929. In 1937 it entered Serie A for the first time, but was immediately relegated again. In 1940 the club was promoted again and stayed in Serie A until 1959. It was immediately promoted again and then remained in the top Italian division until relegation in 1973. Since then, the club has alternated between the top two divisions, and even a season (1981/1982) in Serie C1. The highest ranking was achieved in the 2019 season, when the club finished third in Serie A.
The club first qualified for the UEFA Champions League in 2019, when they finished third in the 2018-19 season. This was the highest final ranking in club history.
