Emmanuel ("Manu") Laurent Petit(Dieppe, 22 September 1970) is a French former professional football player.
The midfielder started as a professional in 1988 at AS Monaco. In 1997 Petit was signed by Arsenal. In his first season with the London club, Petit immediately became national champion. That same year, the world title with France followed at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Petit determined the final score at 3-0 in the final against Brazil, after playmaker Zinedine Zidane had taken care of the first two French hits.
In 2000, Petit, nicknamed "Manu", reached the UEFA Cup final with Arsenal, losing to Galatasaray on penalties. After the world title (1998), Petit also won the European title at Euro 2000 with France. After the European Championship, he made the switch to FC Barcelona together with Marc Overmars. However, Petit could not convince there and in 2001 he left. Chelsea FC bought him for 11.5 million euros. Petit also failed to impress at Chelsea and when his contract with the club expired in 2004, Petit decided to stop as a professional football player.
