Aalborg BK or AaB is a Danish sports club from Aalborg. The club is best known for its football division, but the ice hockey, handball and basketball division are also represented in Denmark's top tiers.
The club was founded on May 13, 1885 by the English as a cricket club and was first called Aalborg Cricket-Club. In 1899 the name changed to Aalborg Boldklub ("Aalborg Balclub") and in 1906 the name Aalborg Boldspilklub was adopted from 1885.
The football department was founded in 1902. In 1928 the club played for the first time in the highest division and stayed there until relegation in 1947. The return to the highest division only followed in 1963. In the seasons 1972, 1978 and from 1981 to 1986 the club played in the second division, for the rest, the club could always remain at the highest level.
In 1995 the club won the national title for the first time under the leadership of coaches Poul Erik Andreasen and Josef Piontek, in the preliminary round of the Champions League the club was eliminated by FC Dynamo Kyiv, but due to a bribery scandal at Kyiv, Dynamo was disqualified and Aalborg was allowed their took place and thus became the first Danish club to participate in the group stage of the Champions League. In 1999 the second national title was won, the club was again linked to Dynamo Kiev and lost it narrowly.
